The Chancellor today (Sunday 26 January) unveils the first images of the Brexit coin, a 50p bearing the inscription ‘Peace, prosperity and friendship with all nations’ and the date the UK leaves the EU.

Around 3 million Brexit coins will enter banks, Post Offices and shops nationwide from Friday 31 January, with a further 7 million entering circulation later this year.

As Master of the Mint, Sajid Javid was given the very first batch of Brexit coins one of which he will present to the Prime Minister this week.

More than 13,000 people have already registered their interest in a commemorative version of the coin which is available to buy from the Royal Mint.

Commenting after seeing the coin for the first time, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sajid Javid said:
Leaving the European Union is a turning point in our history and this coin marks the beginning of this new chapter.
As part of the launch, the Royal Mint will also open its doors for 24 hours to let people strike their own commemorative coins.

By the time we rejoin the EU a few years down the line, these coins might be worth a couple of quid.

Aren't you getting tired of banging the same old drum? It's finished, over! Just like the EU. OK. So don't buy one of these coins then - but Brexit people will because they know the value will increase substantially.

Highly unlikely. They’re minting millions of them. https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/...ving-date.html

The European Union has bigger problems to deal with than Brexit.

The next recession will expose the eurozone as a half-baked project in need of leadership.

If you can get the blinkers off the information is out there, the EU is teetering and its debt is becoming a very big problem.

With 10 million coins being minted, hardly likely to have any increased value beyond face value, they will soon be in your loose change.

Why anyone should want to collect and save the indication of surrender to the far right.

Sadly what's done is done, in 12 months time the reality will bite, if not before.

Is there a seperate coin for "surrender" to the far left who also wanted to leave the EU ?

Then another for those who are neither ?

Why buy it? They will be in normal circulation very soon, there are 10 million being minted, hardly unique.

We are heading into this farce under the "tender" care of a right wing government, can't think of a worse combination, but it is happening like it or not, time will tell, I won't hold my breath waiting for the brave new world.

"And the will of the people"

... would have been more apt if they'd put that on a new 52p coin.

In keeping with the farce how about a "nine Bob note" ( for those younger that's 45p)
